Ten Thousand Homes for Syrian Refugees

2015 September 10000 homesThe Refugee Crisis

The Syrian refugee crisis is one of the worst since the Second World War. Over 2.5 million people are currently living in abject conditions in camps in neighbouring Lebanon and Jordan. Over 1 million of these refugees are children. Many are suffering from hunger, disease and the trauma of losing loved ones.

Now is the time for the people of Britain to speak: to stand up as they did in 1938/9 when the world faced a huge refugee crisis caused by Hitler’s genocidal policies towards the Jews and others.  75 years ago, ordinary Britons did extraordinary things: they opened their homes, and hearts, to the suffering children of Nazi Europe.

We are now calling on the generosity of the British people in the same way. Would you be willing to offer a home to a vulnerable Syrian refugee? This would be a temporary solution to desperate need.

We are looking for offers of 10,000 homes across the UK. Already here in Cambridge we have had dozens of offers.  If you are ready to offer a home to a Syrian refugee, or can offer other support, then please visit our “I Want to Help” page.

Please note: We are not an agency or any kind of official body, simply a group of concerned individuals. We have no expertise or authority to house refugees or organise their welfare.

I Want to Help

We are collecting details of people willing to offer to temporary shelter to vulnerable refugees. We aim for a target of 10,000 Homes and urge you to add your name to the list of those who are willing, in principle, to offer a home to a vulnerable refugee from Syria.

The need is urgent and we hope that you will join us in sending the government and authorities a simple but powerful message. For the desperate refugees from Syria, ‘We have a home.’

To show your support for this campaign, please add your details, which are only for our use in contacting you and never shared, and tick the appropriate box below.

How I can help

Please note: We are not an agency or any kind of official body, simply a group of concerned individuals. We have no expertise or authority to house refugees or organise their welfare.

However, in sending us your names – as potential home givers – or people willing to give more general support, you will join us in putting a little more pressure on the authorities to allow vulnerable refugees into the UK. We believe that there is a huge amount of goodwill in the UK towards refugees. This campaign hopes to draw on that goodwill, as our grandparents did in 1938/9.
